My name is Stephanie L. Herring. And to many, the challenges I've faced are seemingly insurmountable: a brother taken by leukemia at age 19. A police officer father dead at 41. The pressure to grow up fast due to divorced parents. A grandmother who assumed the mantle of motherhood. And, not surprisingly, the temptation to follow a far easier path.
Instead, it’s become a series of hard-earned truths tempered by the strong faith my pastor/grandfather instilled in me. They’re as simple as they are powerful: Always be genuine to yourself by doing the right thing – especially when it’s hard. Foster the courage to overcome fear. Hold yourself accountable for actions and commitments. Take inventory of what you’ve been through to better determine where you’re going. Embrace your authentic self, boldly asserting who you truly are, rather than succumbing to the societal pressures of wearing a façade.
These certainties have guided me as a high-powered executive, woman of faith, devoted mother and, most importantly, someone who enjoys the peace that comes with embracing my authentic self.
